Christmas Attractions in the UK
Many of the attractions in our regional guides run seasonal Christmas events — Santa's grotto, light trails, festive markets — on top of their usual offering. These are typically booked separately and well in advance, so it's worth checking early.
What to look for
- Light trails — increasingly common at zoos, wildlife parks and stately homes; see our zoos & wildlife parks list for candidates.
- Santa's grotto — usually a separate, pre-bookable ticket on top of general admission, with limited dates.
- Castles and stately homes — often dressed for the season with special weekend openings; see our castles list.
- Steam railways — a number of the heritage railways across our regions run "Santa Special" services in December.
Book early, check twice
Christmas events sell out weeks ahead, and — unlike general admission — are usually non-refundable. Always confirm dates, times and whether booking is required directly on the attraction's own website before making plans.
