The different areas of Bournemouth have so much to offer – how do you choose? Follow our brief guide below to see which of the 5 Bournemouth areas would suit you best.

1) Alum Chine and Westbourne
Alum Chine is home to Bournemouth’s famous tropical gardens. Take a stroll through the palm trees and other tropical plants on a hot day towards the beach, and it’s easy to forget that you’re in Britain! Alum Chine beach is one of our three Blue Flag Award winning beach so you can bask in the glorious sunshine close to amenities, golden sand and glistening sea. During your stay, you must venture into Westbourne. Home to boutiques and individual shops, it’s a shoppers playground. And visit at night to choose from a feast of restaurants for a great holiday atmosphere.

2) West Cliff and Central East
Bournemouth West Cliff is home to Durley Chine beach, another of Bournemouth’s 3 Blue Flag Award winners. Here you will find shops and amenities on the beach, as well as gorgeous sand and sea, with easy access to other beaches via the land train. There are many hotels and guesthouses situated around West Cliff, giving a resort feel to the atmosphere, which is peppered with top class restaurants. West Cliff also encompasses the town centre, award winning Upper, Lower and Central Gardens, with Meyrick Park’s golf course and tennis courts close by.


3) East Cliff and Central East
Bournemouth’s East Cliff boasts the Russell Cotes Art Gallery and Museum. This breathtaking museum is the former home of Merton and Annie Russell Cotes, forerunners in the development of Bournemouth, and houses their treasures and artefacts collected from around the globe. Central East also contains the Travel Interchange, so is perfect as a base for travel in and around Dorset. Or in you do choose to stay in the area, enjoy the boutiques on Westover Road and star studded shows at the Pavilion in the evenings. Not forgetting all of this and the ever-popular Bournemouth Pier beach with all amenities and beachside restaurants.

4) Boscombe
Boscombe quite simply oozes character. From the Boscombe Pier beach which is a haven for surfers, to the plethora of antique and bric-a-brac shops if there is ever a place to find something a bit different, it’s here. The centre itself boasts many high street names within the antiques, and has a bustle that can’t be missed. Shelley Park in Boscombe often plays host to many events that mark the lively Boscombe community, most notably the week long Arts Festival in July where musicians, artists, performers and creators galore join together to celebrate art in all its forms. And don’t forget to pay a visit to the beautiful Boscombe Gardens.


5) Southbourne
Southbourne is home to the third of our Blue Flag Award winning beaches, meaning amenities and plenty of facilities for families as you soak up the sun on the golden sands. In the evening, enjoy beautifully lit landscapes at the beachside restaurants. Southbourne’s other gem is its Green Flag Award winning Seafield Gardens, with facilities for bowls, tennis and croquet. Situated close to Hengistbury Head, a beautifully natural beach, and neighbouring town, Christchurch, Southbourne is a great location for picturesque pastures.

Wherever you decide to stay, there is plenty to do. And don’t forget that all these areas are just a short car or bus journey away.
