Monmouthshire
Monmouthshire is in the South/East of Wales. As with all of Wales, it is a county of outstanding natural beauty, with history marked with castles and sites of interest at every turn. There is a canal route through this county that will lead you through some of the most beautiful countryside in Wales and on to England.
For the visitor, this county is atmospheric and legendary. Take time to see The Kymin and The Round House. This National Trust property overlooks Monmouth, the Wye Valley and the Usk plain, with views over to the Sugar Loaf and the Black Mountains beyond. In the 18th century, the gentlemen of Monmouth would meet here for open air lunch parties. In 1794 they collected 80 guineas to build a banqueting house as "security from the inclemency of the weather". The dining room had five windows which looked out over 10 of the old counties.
