Denbighshire
Denbighshire, in North Wales, forms part of the North Wales Borderlands; an area that is culturally Welsh but very close to England and therefore under different influences. The region is of great importance to the story, history and heritage of Wales and England and is rich with attractions. Such delights to be discovered include historical treasures, museums and ancient sites that date back before the time of Owen Glyndwr, to the mystical times of the well loved King Arthur. For evidence of England's historic struggles with Welsh princes and chieftains, you could visit the magnificent castles of Edward I at Denbigh.
For the visitor, Denbigh Castle offers a mystical experience. It stands in a prominent position on a rocky hill above the town of Denbigh. After King Edward I's first major campaign in 1276 against the Welsh prince, Llywelyn the Last, he agreed that a large area of land between the Conwy and Clwyd rivers should belong to Llywelyn's brother, Dafydd ap Gruffudd.
