With its temperate climate Cornwall is the perfect home for a flourishing variety of plants, trees and shrubs. For seasoned horticulturists, keen amateurs or energetic families looking for a fun day out, there is always a surprise around the next corner – maybe a hidden vista or a startling splash of colour.

You can't ignore the highly praised and hugely popular attractions of Heligan and the Eden Project as reason enough to head for Cornwall. The Lost Gardens of Heligan provide over 200 acres of exotic wonder including Victorian productive gardens, sub-tropical jungle and ancient woodlands, offering plenty of inspiration for the avid gardener during their stay, whilst the contents of the Eden Project's biomes have been fascinating adults and children alike since 2001.

Amongst the abundance of gardens featured are the National Trust properties of Lanhydrock with its 1,000 acres of rare shrubs and trees, Cotehele with its medieval beauty, and the smaller, but no less beautiful Trerice. All offer impressive displays of gardening know-how. Prideaux Place on the edge of Padstow is the location for many international television and film endeavours, playing host to stars of the screen including Joanna Lumley, Peter O'Toole, Keira Knightly and Ralph Fiennes. The grounds of the Elizabethan house contain a Victorian formal garden, woodland walks and an 80 tree Lime Avenue.

Far from a day out exclusively for grown-ups, many of Cornwall’s gardens are a feast of fun for both big and little botanists. Tresco Abbey Garden will whisk the children off on an 80 country adventure from Brazil to New Zealand and from Burma to South Africa. St Michael's Mount, across the causeway from Marazion, will inspire daydreams of myth and legend as well as holding events such as an Easter Egg Trail and Music on the Mount.

Even our furry friends are not left out on a garden holiday to Cornwall, as many of the attractions are dog friendly allowing you to bring your four-legged family members along with you. Some of the gardens are also classified as easy access making them more accessible for less agile visitors too.
